The UK Armed Forces Wheelchair Rugby League team returns to action on Saturday, 14 March as they travel to Wrexham University for their first friendly fixture of 2026, taking on Wales Wheelchair Rugby. The match kicks off at 2.15 pm and promises to be an exciting early-season test for both squads.
Before the main event, supporters will also be treated to an additional “A” match earlier in the day, offering valuable game time and development opportunities for wider squad members on both sides. These fixtures will allow emerging and fringe players to showcase their skills and push for future selection.
The two teams last met in November in Hull, where Wales edged a tightly fought contest 24–22. With such a narrow margin separating the sides, anticipation is high for another hard-fought encounter.
Speaking ahead of the game, UK Armed Forces wheelchair player/manager Steve Sampher expressed confidence in his squad’s preparation and hunger to compete:
“We’re looking forward to travelling to Wrexham and challenging Wales again. Our squad showed a lot of character in Hull, and we’ll be building on that performance. These fixtures are crucial for testing combinations, developing depth, and preparing both squads for the big year ahead."
For Wales, this fixture forms an important part of their wider international preparation programme. With the Wheelchair Rugby League Celtic Cup taking place in May in Scotland, followed later in the year by the Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup in Australia, the match serves as a meaningful benchmark as they continue to refine their systems and assess squad depth.
